Drymatic gets to work after flooding in NSW
Daniel Taurins – SRS Specialised Restoration Services Orange NSW
Job of the month February 2020
Wow, what a huge job this was for the SRS team lead by Daniel at the Caves House Jenolan in the beautiful Blue Mountains region of NSW.
The community was just catching their breath from the bush fire disaster and then they were hit with extreme rainfall and flash flooding causing mudslides pushing debris right through everything in its path. Normally a bustling tourist destination this unexpected damage closed most of the town and its surrounding natural attractions.
So, what did the team have ahead of them? First on the list was a massive clean-up with all that mud through the premises before they could even consider where to start with the drying equipment. Next assemble as much equipment as they could get their hands on with every part of the ground of this 40-room guest house affected and then spread the power load to ensure they can keep operating.
Drymatic mats covered hundreds of square metres of timber flooring with air being pumped in by numerous air movers and heated by Drymatic boost bars. Several Drymatic II machines were extracting the wet air and regulating the temperature and humidity of the internal environment and were supported by strategically placed dehumidifiers.
With that much moisture through the property and the time needed to dry the materials there was a high risk of mould contamination and this was kept under control HEPA filtered air scrubbers and hydroxyl generators were utilised.
Looking at the photos we are sure the photos don’t convey the extent of the damage to this historical building and without the quality and quantity of equipment the team used who knows if this building would have been salvaged for other to enjoy for years into the future. What this does show is that when you do have the right equipment and you spend the time measuring and setting it up to equipment will continue to work while you and your team can sleep knowing you will see great progress when you return to monitor and adjust.
Great work Daniel, boss man Luke and the team at SRS and thanks for taking the time to record and share this job with the group.
